Meet The Team

D. Scott Vandenheuvel, Pastor / Head of Staff

Scott is a Minnesota native where he and his wife, Dawn, spent their entire lives until God moved them from part-time ministry into full-time ministry.  Scott holds a degree in Animal Science and worked for 20+ years in business before entering full-time ministry.  He earned his Masters in Divinity at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, MN. Scott is also a licensed Prepare/Enrich Counselor as well as a trained Life Coach. He & Dawn's unique "Team Vandenheuvel" ministry keep them both very rooted in God's word.

Scott & Dawn enjoy traveling, spending time with their daughters as well as with family in MN. Scott enjoys fishing and hunting as well as a round or two of golf!   

Ann Owens, Church Secretary

Ann works part-time as Secretary at the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester. She serves on various non-profit boards in the community, i.e., the Board of Hope House of McAlester where she recently completed 2 years as the Chair, and the Board of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma.  She is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma, Class XIV.  Owens serves on the LOk Program Committee on which she helps with the planning of the LOk visit to McAlester where the class learns about the Criminal Justice System.

Owens has an Associate's degree in business from Tulsa Junior College as well as a Bachelor's degree in human relations and a Master's in management from Southern Nazarene University

Paul Crowl, Music Director

Paul begins his 5th year as Director of Music for First Presbyterian Church in which he directs both the Bell Choir and the Adult Choir. 


Paul is a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. He is entering his 30th of teaching.  He is currently Director of Bands for Savanna Public Schools & Frink Chambers Public Schools.  His bands have earned many superior ratings & championships in various states. Paul has served on many different boards and in 2004 was named "Teacher of the Year" 

Paul earned his BME from the University of OK and his Masters from East Central University.

Debbie Young, Church Custodian

Debbie is a fun-loving, hard working gal and has a heart for God's word.  If she is not working/cleaning, you can usually find her studying her Bible on her breaks.

Debbie is a Texas native but has lived most of her life in Oklahoma. She served with the National Guard 445th MP Co..  She has one son, Patrick.
